(An Ode to Pennsylvania Garden Weeds)
Rainy summertime fun.
Making full use of breaks and peaks.
Between nature’s water spout.
Heavy-duty garden gloves are needed for my weeding tasks.
Proving to be a sticky situation.
While wrangling clingy cleavers away from stems.
And flowered plants.
Such a strange weedy plant.
Entangling my fair garden.
And my muddy pants.
Snared and shared with all types of weedy weaver invaders.
Creeping Ivy
Smart-weed
Mile-a-minute
Climbing thorny multi-flora roses.
Need I mention these thorny unruly rose weavers?
Are such handfuls to undermine.
Thank goodness someone invented hand clippers.
To get rid of this bramble mess.
No wonder why my fingers and arms are strained
Wrestling with cleavers and assorted weavers.
Relaxing on my porch or so I thought.
Still plucking away sticky seeds and thorns
Never a dull venture in a gardener’s weekly endeavor.

I planted wild flowers, I don’t know what is a weed and what might be a flower.

Nicole, try Penn State’s extension Master Gardener’s Facebook group. It is free and they are very helpful. My knowledge of plants is a work in progress. I just found out about cleaver plants this year. They are very sticky plants that are evasive.

I am going to Penn State Behrend tomorrow with my daughter. I think I know the sticky plant you speak of, they are weaving through my hedges.
