Laundry on South Irving Avenue

Metal T poles.

Sturdy cloth clothesline ropes,

strung and tied three rows from end to end.

Swinging like monkeys on those silver metal poles.

Grandma and Mrs. Murray hanging newly washed linens,

pinned and in neat rows–

A wonderful scent.

Mixed with grandma’s multi-colored lilies.

Wafting in a beautiful summertime morning breeze.

Conversations echoing between these two laundering ladies.

Talking about politician who had no common sense.

And youngsters never listening to their elders.

Grandma giving us that all-encompassing look.

To vacate their laundry domain.

Chasing each other towards the front porch.

Catching a scent of so many breakfast smells,

from neighborhood kitchens.

I can still hear those conversations that now,

make sense to me—

Sitting at my breakfast table enjoying,

the scents of pancakes and bacon.

( A shout out to my fellow blogger Sue who gave me this inspiration that is scented with creative sense)

the scents of pancakes and bacon.https://weeklyprompts.wordpress.com/?p=13408&preview=true
