Oh such joy and oh such fun, getting up at the crack of dawn to hear nonsense. I stared at the steam rising from my coffee cup, wishing for more sleep. But ever the dutiful employee, I volunteered to attend our CEO’s quarterly town hall meeting.
Having another motive behind this early rise was to get out early to enjoy a late autumn afternoon. The sun was trying to wake up, but the fog was thick as pea soup. Driving to work in the semi-dark, noticing the sites along the way. Lights from the re-construction of the Lace Works were peering through the fog.
Punching in the Kronos machine and just in time, while smells of coffee wafted through the conference room. Being still half asleep I could not resist another cup of java. Much to my dismay, I was pouring liquid that resembled a muddy stew. Oh well, here we go to hear numbers and matched with statistics with a medical flare. Our new CEO was so proud of himself by expounding the virtues of team building and how he saved the hospital so much money. Then the question and answer portion of this snore fest opened up. With the first question waking up the entire conference room. “So Michael if you are saving us money, then why do I pass a 1.5 million dollar heap of dirt every morning on my commute to work?” stated one of the nurse case managers.
All the CEO could do was stammer and blame the pandemic. Which was an excellent segway for him to announce the annual Christmas party and possible raises for 2023.
Moral of the story: Don’t assume that your employees will never read the newspaper, nor question wasting money on a huge mountain of rubble.
Well done, Mary Anne. I enjoyed the this 🙂

Thank you Sue. That town hall was this past Thursday morning. The look on our CEO’s face was priceless when my co-worker asked the question about the money wasted on the undeveloped piece of land. Which was a reporter’s story the night before the meeting.
